Dexter Helps Mover Launch Laundromat to Stay Closer to Home
When long-distance mover Scott Darnell was looking for business opportunities closer to home, he made the decision that the laundromat business was for him. “I’ve had to do my laundry on the road all my life,” he said. “Something that I always liked was a nice, clean laundromat. Plus, I saw it as a good, simple way to make money,” said Darnell.
Having been a mover for 28 years, Darnell was on the road more than 300 days a year and was looking for opportunities that would allow him to be home more often, to enjoy his family and to spend time in his new pool. Working with Dexter Authorized Distributor, Fran DeJulia of Alco Washer Center, Darnell was able to open Scotty
D’s Laundromat, located in anhistoric section
of Pennsylvania, along the National Pike. “Fran gave me a layout of the machines,” Darnell said. “He offered his opinions as to how he would design this laundry, based on how I wanted to utilize this entire building. He also helped me to set my eventual vend pricing.”
Darnell built his laundry with 3 top-loaders, 3 Dexter Express T-300 Washers, 3 Dexter Express T-400 Washers, 2 Dexter T-650 Express Washers, 1 Dexter T-1200 Washer, 14 Dexter 30 pound stacked Express dryers and 1 Dexter 55lb Dryer. Despite the fact that his laundry is located in one of the poorest counties in Pennsylvania, Darnell has built a successful business to serve a wide demographic. His laundry also includes a shipping and business center, a U-Haul truck rental, and he has built a successful wash-dry-fold service.
“I wanted to put a wash-dry-fold business here because there wasn’t such a service in this area,” he explained. “There are a lot of business-people in town, especially within the oil industry. A lot of contractors stay in our hotels. That accounts for a good portion of my drop-off business now. “With a drop-off laundry service, it won’t take much effort to make money here,” he added.
